Ukai for me, Ukai for you

Discover something special behind the door at 240 Portobello Road

Honouring and Inventing

Before Ukai, our restaurant & bar space was home to The Market Bar, a 1980s hotspot for music and dance at the centre of bohemian life in West London.  By preserving the 19th century façade and performance space, we’ve stayed true to the legacy of this London instition and its electic cliental of celebrities, entertainers and local characters.

This year UKAI celebrates 10 years as part of this special community, serving fresh and exciting contemporary japanese cuisine in an irresistable setting.

But there always something new! Why not pop in for a cocktail after work, discover a wonderful new artist or simply order delivery to your door.

Fusion Food

Contemporary Japanese cuisine is at the heart of Ukai, and our top chefs have gone above and beyond to add something extra – an Italian flare.

Combining the sumptuous flavours of Italy to enhance beautifully simple Japanese dishes creates combinations you won’t find anywhere else – white tuna tataki with yuzu and truffle dressing for example, or Wagyu beef toban yaki. Check out our menu here and try them out for yourself

Creative Cocktails

We are London’s best Japanese fusion cocktail bar… so you’ll have to pay a visit to experience firsthand what our mixologists have created! Expect Sake infused cocktails, award winning whiskies from Japan and a European flare throughout.  Cast an eye over our drinks list and treat yourself to something new

Door to Door Delivery

Looking for something delicious delivered to your door? Want more wasabi, less salt or extra edamame? We hire our own delivery personel to escort your order home, and  are happy to hear any special requests or personal preferences. Place an order today

What our customers are saying

Came to London for the weekend and on a rainy Saturday afternoon we took a stroll around Notting Hill. We heard this great band blasting out some very soulful music and drifted towards it.

We ordered some cocktails and some small Japanese tapas style nibbles then sat back… We spent several hours there. The cocktails were really nice and the food equally as good.

We decided that we would return again and again. A very relaxed and chilled out venue

The interior is beautiful, very trendy and nice mixture of styles. Very laid back and welcoming atmosphere. The service was friendly, very attentive and made me feel very comfortable. I had Udon with vegetable which was seasoned perfectly, crisp and lovely; texture of the food was remarkable.

I was there in the afternoon, but can imagine, that dinner and drinks there would be more than fine in this location. The bar looked great.

Facilities were very clean. I can only recommend.

Delectable in every way. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The food is remarkable – the chef should be commended. Service is great. We dined on a Saturday night when there was a dj and a live band. Music is a mixture of hip hop,, soul, pop and latino; a bit of everything.

Great atmosphere, had a really good time eating, drinking and dancing. Looking forward to returning.
